Good to know

Ranger's Trailhead is the perfect basecamp for your mountain adventures. Just 11 minutes (7.8 miles) from the entrance of Mount Rainier National Park. But if you don’t feel like driving, just head out the backdoor. The cabin backs up to thousands of acres of pristine DNR forestland—known locally as the Elbe Hills—offering miles of trails and forest roads to explore, with a few starting right from the backyard. Our cozy retreat features a private loft with a queen bed plus a detached bedroom suite—also with a queen bed—just steps from the back door, ideal for couples or small groups wanting space and privacy. The open-concept living area includes a fully equipped kitchen stocked with essential cookware, perfect for preparing a homemade meal after a day on the trails. Gather around the wood-burning stove, stream your favorite shows from the sectional sofa, or enjoy a relaxing soak in the private hot tub while surrounded by nature. Birdsongs, fresh mountain air, and total peace await in the spacious backyard with a large patio—perfect for morning coffee or stargazing at night. Planning a longer stay? Take advantage of the in-unit washer and dryer—great for extended visits or a quick load after a hike. In winter, the nearby Mount Tahoma Trails are groomed for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, making this a perfect year-round destination for outdoor lovers. What makes Ranger’s Trailhead truly special is its setting: it’s one of the few Ashford cabins not located in a development. That means privacy, peace, and that "away-from-it-all" feeling. Whether you’re here to hike, snowshoe, or simply unwind, Ranger’s Trailhead offers the perfect mix of rustic charm, modern comfort, and unbeatable access to nature.

Other Details to Note

Stairs: the stairs to the loft bedroom are steep. Slightly better than a ladder, not quite like a typical staircase. The detached bedroom suite, however is only 3 “normal” steps to the front door. Snow: In the winter, you may encounter snow so please be prepared with AWD and/or tire chains. Our driveway is short, though can be icy. We try and keep it plowed as often as we can, but there may be times that you'll need to drive in snow and ice (weather dependent). Power Outages: Every once in a while the power goes out in Ashford during a heavy winter storm. Of course our wood burning stove will keep you warm, but we do also provide a propane stove (with propane) and lanterns/flashlights just in case this happens. Note that the hot tub, electric heat and WIFI all require electricity :) Cell phone service: Verizon is fairly on/off with service but we have not tested the other carriers. Our Starlink WIFI is fast and is fairly reliable. Events: Our home is not suitable for events. All guests should be listed on your reservation, please let us know if you are expecting anyone.

We loved the property and its proximity to Mt. Rainier. I especially liked that we could walk right out the door and walk into the state park trail. The beds were super plush and comfy. I really appreciated all the extra towels. There were instructions for whatever we needed, so it made our stay simple. The cabin was quaint and adorable and perfect for my son and I for the weekend. I hope to rent from Grant again. All of the Ranger properties look nice.

I can confidently say this was the most beautiful Airbnb I’ve stayed in. The space was so clean and beautifully decorated. The backyard was peaceful and soaking in the hot tub after long hikes was such a reward. Grant and Sarah took the time to create a thoughtful manual with recommendations and descriptions of local wildlife, which was a nice touch. The location is very close to the entrance of Mt Rainier. The town was small but had a couple of food options and a very small general store. We highly recommend the pizza from BaseCamp.

We loved our stay at Ranger’s Trailhead. The cabin was beautiful and comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare meals. The bathroom was spacious and has a fabulous shower. The outdoor space around the cabin is lovely and worth exploring. We enjoyed eating outside. The hot tub was also appreciated. Grant was responsive and helpful. We would definitely stay at the cabin again (or at any of their other properties).

Our stay at Ranger’s Trailhead Cabin was absolutely unforgettable. Grant's place provided the perfect setting for our adventure. From the moment we arrived, the cabin felt like a home away from home, and leaving was the last thing I wanted to do. The cabin was amazing, offering all the comforts we could ask for. One of our favorite activities was relaxing in the hot tub after an invigorating day of hiking, it was the perfect way to unwind and enjoy the tranquil surroundings. Mornings were equally delightful as I savored my coffee on the front porch, taking in the breathtaking views. Having access to a washer/dryer was incredibly convenient, allowing us to freshen up our hiking clothes before moving on to the next part of our trip. The cabin truly felt like a private mountain resort, offering an exclusive & serene experience. Definitely recommend Grant’s place to anyone seeking a memorable & relaxing getaway. We certainly hope to return one day and relive the magic of our time there!
